For many years I have primarily worked in watercolour
or acrylic, painting bold floral portraits. In recent years I have broaden my scope of
work to include landscapes, flora and fauna of various conservation and natural
areas in the hopes I can generate appreciation, educate and promote the
importance of conserving and protecting natural areas, habitats and their
species.
An evolving merger of genre inspired a new series exploring the iconic Alberta Rose that so aptly reflects our province and people. Through my painting, I have explored the wild prickly rose in various stages, seasons, or habitats. Combining a strong colour element, dynamic light and a loose realistic style, I explore their colours, shapes and beauty. I love to look into the blossoms, discovering their "souls" and personalities or perhaps, capture the Alberta Rose in the landscape or various habitats, allowing the viewer to draw the parallels between it's nuances and the province and people.
Thru the artwork I look to tell a story of the Alberta Rose, which in turn, gives the viewer opportunity to find their own memories or connection to "The Iconic Alberta Rose".
